Deux ans après avoir été largement surpayé par les Rockets, Fred VanVleet pourrait bien leur rendre la pareille en acceptant une baisse de salaire pour poursuivre l’aventure. L’objectif : aider Houston à viser les Finales NBA dès la saison prochaine. <\/p>

Lorsque Houston a offert à VanVleet un contrat de 180 millions de dollars sur trois ans en 2023, beaucoup ont parlé d’excès. Et pour cause : avec un salaire de 44 millions prévus pour 2025-26, le meneur de 31 ans est payé bien au-dessus de sa valeur actuelle. Mais l’impact du joueur, sur et en dehors du terrain, est indéniable. <\/p>

Depuis son arrivée, la franchise a changé de visage. Ime Udoka, Jalen Green et Alperen Sengun y sont pour beaucoup, mais VanVleet a su apporter leadership, expérience et stabilité à un groupe jeune. Résultat : 52 victoires en saison régulière cette année et une 2ᵉ place à l’Ouest. <\/p>

Une baisse de salaire pour prolonger l’aventure ? <\/h2>

D’après le journaliste Jake Fischer,<\/a> tout porte à croire que VanVleet restera à Houston, mais dans un nouveau cadre financier. <\/p>

« La tendance forte est que VanVleet restera chez les Rockets, après avoir montré un leadership crucial dans la réussite surprise de l’équipe. » <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Plusieurs scénarios sont évoqués. Houston pourrait refuser l’option de sa dernière année (44 M$) pour ensuite lui proposer un nouveau contrat pluriannuel à un montant annuel inférieur, autour des 30 millions par an. Ce serait un compromis gagnant-gagnant : le joueur sécuriserait plusieurs années de contrat, et la franchise gagnerait de la flexibilité sous le plafond salarial. <\/p>

Il existe aussi la possibilité que les Rockets maintiennent son contrat… en vue d’un échange majeur cet été, notamment autour de la draft. Mais cette piste semble moins probable à ce stade. <\/p>

En 2024-25, VanVleet a tourné à 14,1 points par match, 3,7 rebonds, 5,6 passes 1,6 interception et 35 % à trois points à l’issue de 60 recontres disputées avec 35,2 minutes de moyenne. <\/p>

Des chiffres corrects, mais qui ne justifient pas un contrat à 44 millions. En acceptant une réduction salariale, le meneur rendrait service à l’équipe tout en prolongeant une aventure qui pourrait bien se transformer en parcours vers les sommets de la Conférence Ouest, mais aussi de la NBA.<\/p>
