Après avoir confié le rôle de doublure de Patrick Mahomes à Carson Wentz en 2024, les Chiefs ont décidé de miser sur Gardner Minshew pour tenir ce poste en 2025. Une collaboration qui devrait porter ses fruits selon Andy Reid, head coach de Kansas City. <\/p>

Un duo de titulaires<\/h2>

Il y a des quarterbacks qui sont des remplaçants éternels en NFL, mais cela n’est pas le cas de Gardner Minshew. Alors que l’équipe termine son programme d’intersaison, Reid a salué la valeur ajoutée de ce dernier, soulignant que son expérience sera précieuse pour épauler Patrick Mahomes les jours de match. <\/p>

« Il a déjà été titulaire, donc il possède cette expérience-là, » a expliqué Reid en conférence de presse. « Il a gagné la confiance de ses coéquipiers. Patrick sait qu’il a déjà été dans le feu de l’action, ce qui leur permet d’échanger facilement sur ce qu’ils voient sur le terrain », rapporte NBC Sports<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Une situation d’égal à égal sur le papier, bien qu’en réalité ce soit bien différent. Si l’ancien des Colts compte un Pro Bowl (2023), Mahomes en compte lui six (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023). À cela, il faut rajouter deux titres de MVP, deux distinctions d’All-Pro (2018, 2022) et trois Super Bowls avec un titre de MVP à chaque fois. Néanmoins, Andy Reid pense que les discussions entre les deux hommes seront bénéfiques à l’équipe. <\/p>

« C’est toujours un atout d’avoir à ses côtés quelqu’un qui a joué et qui comprend les situations. Je pense que le jour du match, Gardner sera un excellent soutien pour Patrick, notamment grâce à ce qu’il observera depuis la touche, en complément de ce que Patrick vivra sur le terrain. » <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Âgé de 29 ans, Minshew compte 46 titularisations en NFL depuis sa sélection par les Jaguars au 6ᵉ tour de la Draft 2019. La saison dernière, le QB a disputé 10 matchs (dont 9 comme titulaire) avec les Raiders, complétant 66,3 % de ses passes pour 2 013 yards, 9 touchdowns et 10 interceptions. <\/p>
