C’est décidément le jour du grand ménage dans les défenses de NFL. Après Jaire Alexander laissé libre par les Green Bay Packers, Tom Pelissero (NFL Network) rapporte que les Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> ont décidé de se séparer de leur linebacker Germaine Pratt. Le joueur de 28 ans, qui avait pourtant été un élément incontournable du système défensif ces dernières années, quitte l’équipe après avoir lui-même demandé un échange en février dernier.<\/p>

Pratt entrait dans la dernière année de son contrat de trois saisons signé en 2023, pour un montant total de 20,5 millions de dollars. Sa libération permet aux Bengals d’économiser 5,6 millions pour la saison 2025, une marge de manœuvre non négligeable alors que la franchise cherche à renforcer d’autres postes clés.<\/p>

Sélectionné au troisième tour de la draft 2019, Pratt a disputé 79 matchs en tant que titulaire au cours des cinq dernières années. Il s’était imposé comme un véritable leader et un joueur de confiance pour le coordinateur défensif Lou Anarumo. D’ailleurs, lors de la saison dernière, le linebacker faisait partie des capitaines de la franchise d’AFC Nord. Sa saison 2024 fut d’ailleurs la plus accomplie sur le plan statistique, avec 143 plaquages (10e de la ligue), deux interceptions, deux fumbles forcés et six passes déviées.<\/p>

Cette séparation s’inscrit dans un contexte plus large de doutes concernant la défense des Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>. En plus de Germaine Pratt, le pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson, auteur du plus grand nombre de sacks en NFL en 2024, a également demandé à être échangé, invoquant une situation contractuelle insatisfaisante. Hendrickson a même menacé de ne pas jouer en 2025 sans nouvel accord. A cette heure, la situation de l’ancien joueur des New Orleans Saints n’est toujours pas réglée.<\/p>

Pour les Bengals, l’enjeu sera donc de remplacer un des joueurs importants de sa défense des dernières années. Déjà en difficulté dans le domaine défensif lors de la saison dernière, les Bengals sont maintenant dans l’obligation de renforcer ce secteur de jeu si les départs de joueurs clés venaient à s’accumuler dans l’escouade défensive.<\/p>
