Après une saison terminée à la dernière place de la Conférence Ouest avec 17 victoires et 65 défaites, le Jazz est en pleine reconstruction. Utah reste sur trois saisons sans playoffs, conclues avec un bilan négatif à chaque fois, mais cette intersaison pourrait être salvatrice pour la franchise de Salt Lake City. En attendant des renforts sur le terrain, les bureaux, eux, se sont renforcés avec l’arrivée d’un nouvel élément fort en provenance de Boston. <\/p>

Un nouveau président des opérations basket arrive <\/h2>

Pour préparer au mieux la saison prochaine, le Jazz va avoir besoin de nouveautés dans son effectif. La draft, la free agency, de nouveaux contrats : les moyens sont divers pour permettre à Utah de remonter la pente. Et pour chapeauter tout cela, la franchise a choisi son nouvel homme fort : Austin Ainge. Ce dernier était directeur général adjoint des Boston Celtics jusqu’à présent, mais il est aussi le fils de l’ancien joueur NBA et dirigeant de longue date Danny Ainge. <\/p>

Le père d’Austin a lui-même suivi une trajectoire comparable, quittant ses fonctions de président des opérations basket des Celtics en 2021 avant de rejoindre le Jazz cette même année en tant que PDG des opérations sportives. Depuis, Danny Ainge travaille aux côtés du manager général Justin Zanik. Interrogé par NBA.com<\/a>, le nouveau directeur des opérations basket s’est montré ravi. <\/p>

« C’est une opportunité incroyable de diriger les opérations basket du Utah Jazz, » a déclaré Ainge. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

L’homme de 43 ans va connaître son premier poste majeur en NBA. Une fierté pour lui, qui ne freine en rien son excitation. <\/p>

« Je suis extrêmement enthousiaste quant à l’avenir prometteur de cette franchise. J’ai hâte de collaborer avec Ryan et Ashley Smith ainsi qu’avec les autres dirigeants de l’équipe. Je compte m’appuyer sur mes 17 années d’expérience à construire une organisation capable de décrocher un titre. J’ai consacré ma vie à cela : étudier les équipes, les talents, la chimie collective et l’altruisme nécessaires pour gagner. J’ai hâte d’apporter cela à Utah et de redonner aux fans du Jazz des raisons d’y croire, alors que nous reconstruisons le projet. » <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

L’un des premiers gros dossiers à gérer pour Austin Ainge sera le cas Lauri Markkanen, dont les rumeurs de transfert se font de plus en plus insistantes. Côté draft, le Jazz possède les choix 5, 21, 43 et 53. Disposer d’un choix dans le top 5 leur offre une chance réelle de sélectionner un prospect capable de devenir la nouvelle pierre angulaire du projet, ou un joueur apte à s’adapter à celui déjà en place. L’équipe reste encore largement à reconstruire après les départs de Donovan Mitchell et Rudy Gobert, il y a déjà quelques saisons. Aucun joueur de leur calibre ne s’est encore imposé depuis, et les propriétaires semblent prêts à faire preuve de patience dans ce processus de reconstruction. <\/p>

Le capital de choix de draft du Jazz pourrait encore s’étoffer si des joueurs comme Markkanen, le pivot Walker Kessler ou les arrières Jordan Clarkson et Collin Sexton venaient à être échangés. Ainge aura ainsi de nombreuses opportunités pour bâtir sur les bases déjà posées par Justin Zanik, bien qu’un gros travail reste à faire. <\/p>

Fort de son expérience en NBA, couronnée d’un titre en 2024 avec les Celtics, la nouvelle recrue des Rocheuses pourrait être l’homme providentiel tant attendu par les fans de la franchise.<\/p>
