Mardi 20 mai, le commissaire de la NFL, Roger Goodell, a donné une bonne nouvelle aux fans de football américain hors des États-Unis.<\/p>

Lors d’une interview accordée à la chaîne CNBC, Goodell a évoqué la possibilité que la ligue organise jusqu’à 16 matchs internationaux dans une même saison<\/strong>, et ce très bientôt<\/strong>. Ainsi, la NFL plus que doublerait<\/strong> les sept rencontres prévues en 2025, un record jusque-là.<\/p>

« Je vois 16 matchs de saison régulière à l’étranger, et je pense que cela arrivera dans un futur très proche. D’ici environ cinq ans », a déclaré Goodell<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Le commissaire a également souligné que « le marché international est ouvert »<\/strong> et que la ligue est enthousiasmée par son potentiel. D’ailleurs, le PDG de Marriott International Inc.<\/strong>, entreprise du secteur hôtelier et partenaire de la NFL, a appuyé ces propos ce mardi. Il a affirmé que le tourisme sportif représente plus de 50 milliards de dollars par an<\/strong> et constitue 10 % du tourisme mondial<\/strong>.<\/p>

Cette semaine, la NFL et ses 32 franchises se réunissent à Minneapolis<\/strong> pour discuter de ce sujet crucial pour l’avenir économique de la ligue. En plus d’autres thèmes, comme l’éventuelle interdiction du “tush push”<\/strong>, l’expansion internationale<\/strong> sera un des dossiers majeurs.<\/p>

Cette expansion est un sentiment global même chez les propriétaires de la NFL : <\/p>

« C’est probablement à l’horizon », a déclaré le propriétaire des Falcons, Arthur Blank, lors d’une apparition sur NFL Network pendant le camp d’entraînement en juillet. Lors des réunions de printemps de la NFL en mars, le propriétaire des Chiefs, Clark Hunt, a affirmé que la ligue « a pour objectif à court terme d’atteindre huit, et peut-être, à terme, jusqu’à seize. »<\/p>

En arrière-plan, une possible renégociation des droits TV pourraient aussi avoir lieu pour créer un package spécial pour les droits internationaux. Front Office Sports<\/a> évoque une valeur potentielle de 1 milliards de dollars par saison.<\/p>

En 2025, la NFL organisera des matchs de saison régulière dans cinq pays différents<\/strong> : Brésil<\/strong>, Irlande<\/strong>, Angleterre<\/strong> (avec trois rencontres), Allemagne<\/strong> et Espagne<\/strong>.<\/p>

Désormais, toutes les équipes peuvent renforcer leur image et leur base de fans à l’international<\/strong>.<\/p>

Au France, ce sont les Saints de la Nouvelle-Orléans<\/a><\/strong> qui détiennent ces droits.<\/p>

Enfin, le match premier des 7 matchs internationaux se jouera ce vendredi 5 septembre à la Neo Química Arena de São Paulo<\/strong> entre les Los Angeles Chargers<\/strong> et les Kansas City Chiefs<\/strong>.<\/p>
