Pour s’assurer de conserver Vladimir Guerrero Jr., les Toronto Blue Jays ont proposé un nouveau contrat à leur star durant le spring training. Selon le journaliste Jon Heyman du New York Post<\/em>, l’offre atteindrait environ 500 millions de dollars.<\/p>

La franchise a agi avant la date limite fixée par le joueur lui-même pour clore les négociations.<\/p>

Le montant net du contrat devrait se situer entre 400 et 450 millions de dollars, selon certaines sources citées par Heyman. Le joueur de 25 ans recherchait un accord à long terme avoisinant les 500 millions de dollars, selon Ken Rosenthal de The Athletic<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>

Si l’accord se concrétise, le quadruple All-Star signerait le deuxième plus gros contrat de l’histoire de la MLB<\/a>, derrière seulement les 765 millions de dollars garantis de Juan Soto avec les New York Mets. L’accord de 700 millions de dollars de Shohei Ohtani avec les Los Angeles Dodgers, signé avant la dernière saison, a une valeur actualisée de 460,8 millions de dollars en raison de clauses spécifiques.<\/p>

Vladimir Guerrero Jr, qui entrera en 2025 dans la dernière année de son contrat actuel, avait déclaré début mars qu’il souhaitait un nouveau contrat de 14 ans, mais pour une somme inférieure aux 765 millions de dollars obtenus par Soto avec les Mets.<\/p>

“C’est bien moins que Soto. On parle de beaucoup moins de millions que Soto, plus de cent millions en moins. C’était le même nombre d’années que Soto, mais ça n’atteignait pas 600 millions de dollars”, avait déclaré le joueur à l’époque.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Lors de la dernière saison, Vladimir Guerrero Jr a frappé 30 home runs, produit 103 points (RBIs) et affiché un OPS de 94 % en 159 matchs. Il a terminé sixième du vote pour le MVP de la Ligue américaine.<\/p>
