Selon Adrian Wojnarowski d’ESPN, les Cavaliers de Cleveland ont renvoyé leur entraîneur J.B. Bickerstaff après cinq saisons.<\/a><\/h2>

J.B. Bickerstaff a été licencié après une saison où les Cavaliers ont terminé quatrièmes de la Conférence Est avec un bilan de 48-34 et ont atteint le deuxième tour des playoffs NBA pour la première fois depuis la saison 2017-2018.<\/p>

Cleveland a finalement perdu en cinq matchs contre les Boston Celtics, avec leur star Donovan Mitchell<\/a> absent pour les deux derniers matchs de la série et le pivot Jarrett Allen manquant huit matchs consécutifs en playoffs, remontant au premier tour contre le Magic d’Orlando.<\/p>

J.B. Bickerstaff avait pris la tête des Cavaliers après le licenciement de John Beilein pendant la saison 2019-2020. En 2021, il avait accepté un nouveau contrat le prolongeant jusqu’à la saison 2026-2027.<\/p>

Auparavant, J.B. Bickerstaff avait été entraîneur principal des Houston Rockets et des Memphis Grizzlies.<\/p>

Au total, J.B. Bickerstaff a compilé un bilan de 170-159 avec les Cavaliers, incluant deux participations aux playoffs.<\/p>

Les Cavaliers se sont améliorés durant les deux premières saisons complètes de J.B. Bickerstaff, mais les attentes ont considérablement augmenté après l’acquisition de Donovan Mitchell des Utah Jazz en échange de Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton et les droits sur six premiers choix de draft.<\/p>

Soudain, Cleveland avait sa plus grande superstar depuis LeBron James, une addition censée permettre à l’équipe de rivaliser avec les Celtics, les Milwaukee Bucks et les Philadelphia 76ers au sommet de l’Est.<\/p>

Cependant, une première saison prometteuse avec Donovan Mitchell, se soldant par un bilan de 51-31, s’est terminée par une surprenante défaite au premier tour des playoffs contre les New York Knicks en cinq matchs.<\/p>

Cette défaite a peut-être révélé des problèmes à venir, car les joueurs ont remis en question l’approche de J.B. Bickerstaff avec une jeune équipe et sa stratégie offensive, selon The Athletic.<\/p>

Ces problèmes ont persisté cette saison, avec J.B. Bickerstaff également critiqué par le directeur général Koby Altman pour avoir trop utilisé Donovan Mitchell.<\/p>

Cependant, les blessures du meneur Darius Garland et de l’ailier Evan Mobley ont probablement forcé J.B. Bickerstaff à augmenter le temps de jeu de Donovan Mitchell, créant une situation difficile pour l’entraîneur.<\/p>

Le licenciement de J.B. Bickerstaff intervient alors que des inquiétudes subsistent sur la capacité des Cavaliers à re-signer Donovan Mitchell pour une extension de contrat.<\/p>

Le quintuple All-Star est éligible pour signer une extension de cinq ans d’une valeur de 269,9 millions de dollars lorsqu’il deviendra agent libre après la saison 2024-2025.<\/p>

Mais si Donovan Mitchell hésite à re-signer, la direction tentera probablement de l’échanger pour obtenir quelque chose en retour.<\/p>

Cependant, la présence de Donovan Mitchell dans l’équipe semble avoir eu un effet négatif sur Darius Garland, et J.B. Bickerstaff avait du mal à trouver comment les faire jouer ensemble.<\/p>

L’équipe se posait également des questions sur la manière dont Jarrett Allen et Evan Mobley, tous deux des pivots orientés sur la défense, pouvaient s’intégrer ensemble dans le frontcourt.<\/p>

Jarrett Allen pourrait également être échangé pour permettre à Evan Mobley, éligible pour une extension de contrat cette intersaison, de prendre un rôle plus important sur le terrain.<\/p>

Koby Altman, en créant une composition d’équipe plus cohérente en échangeant des pièces qui ne s’intègrent pas bien, aurait certainement bénéficié à J.B. Bickerstaff.<\/p>
