MLB – Passer de 30 à 32 équipes avant la fin de son mandat : c’est le souhait de Rob Manfred.<\/h2>

Alors que le commissaire de la MLB a annoncé qu’il quitterait ses fonctions à la fin de son mandat en 2029, il semble vouloir partir sur une note positive. En effet, la question de l’expansion, bien que non imminente, est sur la table.<\/p>

Rob Manfred a déclaré à la presse qu’il « aimerait bien que le processus et le choix des villes » soient réalisés avant la fin de son mandat. Jeff Passan d’ESPN donne même déjà deux villes qui semblent être en pôle position pour accueillir ces deux potentielles nouvelles franchises : Nashville et Salt Lake City.<\/p>

« Malgré toutes leurs différences culturelles, spirituelles et historiques, Nashville (Tennessee) et Salt Lake City ont de nombreux points communs. Nashville est le 26e marché médiatique des États-Unis, Salt Lake City le 27e. Toutes deux se classent régulièrement parmi les villes à la croissance la plus rapide des États-Unis. Et toutes deux se sont positionnées pour être en première ligne lorsque la MLB décidera enfin de s’étendre. » écrit Jeff Passan<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>

Mais rien ne presse. Des sujets plus urgents sont à régler pour Rob Manfred comme le déménagement des A’s à Las Vegas<\/a> et la construction d’un nouveau stade pour les Rays de Tampa Bay, dernière équipe avec les Diamondbacks à avoir rejoint la ligue en 1998.<\/p>

Une expansion à 4 milliards de dollars<\/h3>

Cela fait donc plus d’un quart de siècle, soit la deuxième plus longue période sans expansion de l’histoire de la ligue, qu’aucune nouvelle équipe n’a rejoint les rangs de la MLB. Pourtant, dès 1988 les propriétaires avaient voté pour la création d’une ligue à 32 équipes dans la décennie qui suivait.<\/p>

Cette période va continuer à s’allonger puisqu’il ne faut pas s’attendre à une arrivée de deux nouvelles équipes avant au moins les années 2030. Et beaucoup de choses ont changé depuis l’arrivée des Rays et des Dbacks, notamment le ticket d’entrée.<\/p>

Jeff Passan mentionne le chiffre combiné de 4 milliards de dollars pour l’arrivée de deux nouvelles équipes.<\/p>

Nashville et Salt lake City font office de favoris mais d’autres villes ne sont pas en reste. Tout le Québec attend le retour des Expos et des discussions ont déjà été menées. Portland est aussi un bassin qui pourrait intéresser la MLB.<\/p>

Rien n’est encore fait, mais une chose est sûre, la MLB à 32 équipes est proche.<\/p>
