Paul Schwartz du New York Post<\/a>, les Giants auraient décidé de ne pas placer leur franchise tag sur Saquon Barkley lors de cette intersaison 2024.<\/p>La raison de cette décision des Giants de New York serait double. Tout d’abord, il ne faut pas négliger l’aspect financier d’un nouveau tag placé sur Saquon Barkley. En effet, il convient de se rappeler que le joueur a déjà été taggé par la franchise de New York lors de l’intersaison 2023. S’il reçoit de nouveau le franchise tag, les New York Giants devront payer 20% de plus de salaire au joueur pour la saison 2024 soit une augmentation de salaire d’un peu plus de deux millions de dollars.<\/p>
La seconde raison est de savoir si Saquon Barkley mérite ces deux millions de dollars supplémentaires. Il ne s’agit bien évidemment pas de dire que Barkley ne serait pas un joueur talentueux capable de renverser un match. Cela ne souffre d’aucune discussion. Mais la production offensive du joueur ne fut pas celle attendue pendant la saison 2023 même s’il a tout de même réussi 10 touchdowns en 1242 yards course et réception cumulé. Un chiffre en recul de 400 yards par rapport à la saison 2023. Une saison tout de même convenable surtout avec l’effectif autour de lui.<\/p>
A 27 ans et avec un passé marqué par les blessures, les New York Giants semblent réticents à prendre le risque financier d’un nouveau franchise tag sur Saquon Barkley. En cas d’absence de signature, Barkley serait donc agent libre officiellement dans moins d’un mois. Et nul doute qu’il trouvera une équipe dans laquelle rebondir rapidement en NFL.<\/p>
