Phoenix Mercury GM Nick U’Ren opened up following the team’s defeat in the 2025 WNBA<\/a> Finals. For the Mercury, all but one player in the Finals roster is unsigned, which means that the front office would have a roster overhaul as it happened during the preparation for the season. However, the agreements won’t happen unless the players and the WNBA leadership don’t reach a collective bargaining agreement. <\/p>

Talking about the roster, U’Ren said<\/a> that everything on the team is uncertain, and there is no idea of what’s coming ahead for them. “We just did all our exit interviews and I always just err on the side of honesty, even if that means uncertainty,” <\/em>he told the media. “I told everybody over and over, ‘We have no idea what’s coming for us.’” <\/em><\/p>

“They’re going to have decisions to make based on their career, their family. We’re going to have decisions to make based on our team. We can have all our hopes, desires and plans at this point in time, but no one knows until the CBA gets done.”<\/em><\/p>

Notably, before Game 1, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said that there could be an extension. In the meantime, the league will continue to operate as per current CBA for a temporary period while the negotiations continue. <\/p>

What Lies Ahead for 2025 WNBA Finalists Phoenix Mercury During the Offseason? <\/h2>

The Phoenix Mercury finished the season in the fourth spot on the standings with a record of 27 wins and 17 defeats. The free agents in the team include, Kahleah Copper (unrestricted), Satou Sabally (unrestricted), Alyssa Thomas (unrestricted), Sami Whitcomb (unrestricted), DeWanna Bonner (unrestricted), Natasha Mack (reserved), Kitija Laksa (reserved), Lexi Held (reserved), Monique Akoa Makani (reserved), Kathryn Westbeld (reserved). <\/p>

They own a second-round pick in the 2026 draft. In the upcoming season, they should focus on retaining their top players. However, it should also be seen how they target young players who had a breakout season with the team, and will be on target for other franchises as well. <\/p>

As of priority, they are likely to focus on names such as Kahleah Copper, Satou Sabally, Alyssa Thomas, and Monique Akoa Makani. In case they are not able to keep most of their depth, the Mercury would aim for new targets for their bench unit.<\/p>\n
