The Detroit Lions have become a powerhouse of the tough NFC North division over the past couple of seasons. And at the heart of the coaching personnel were their offensive and defensive coordinators, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, respectively, along with head coach Dan Campbell. <\/p>
While Campbell remains in Detroit, both Johnson and Glenn departed this offseason for pastures new. The Lions’ former OC has taken up the head coaching job with the Chicago Bears<\/a>, and the latter has gone on to become the head coach in New York for the Jets. <\/p> However, it didn’t take long for Detroit to fill the void, but the bigger question remains whether the new additions to the coaching staff will be able to keep the Lions atop the NFC North?<\/p> Following Ben Johnson’s departure to the Bears, the Lions went ahead and brought in John Morton as their new offensive coordinator. This is Morton’s second stint in Detroit, as he had earlier worked as a senior offensive assistant in 2022. <\/p> Morton spent the last two seasons working as the pass game coordinator with the Denver Broncos. He was an instrumental part of helping Denver turn around its offense under rookie quarterback Bo Nix in the 2024 season. <\/p> The 55-year-old coordinator arrives in his new role with plenty of experience in the game.
