Ruud has won a grand total of just 3 matches across all Grand Slams this year (he missed Wimbledon due to knee issues). Certainly, it&rsquo;s been a tough year for Ruud, who revealed he&rsquo;s struggling with confidence issues after his latest loss.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Raphael Collignon on beating Ruud to get 1st top 20 win at U.S. Open<br><br>&ldquo;I think it&rsquo;s the best day of my life. Later, the Norwegian admitted that his general time on court no longer gets boosted by his confidence.<em> &ldquo;I can just honestly say I don&rsquo;t play with much confidence these days,&rdquo;<\/em> said Ruud. Even then, Ruud&rsquo;s US Open loss isn&rsquo;t anything short of heartbreaking.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The 26-year-old fell behind after losing the first set. However, he fought back against Collignon to secure the next two sets. Ahead 2-1, Ruud looked primed to win it all in the 4th set but ended up fizzling out. In the end, Ruud will be booking an early flight home after a 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 loss against Colligon.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jakub Mensik Still Can&rsquo;t Crack the Grand Slams<\/strong><\/h2><p>For a minute after Jakub Mensik&rsquo;s Miami win, it seemed like the teenager was primed to be tennis&rsquo; next big thing. However, since then, things haven&rsquo;t been smooth for the Czech star. In fact, one of the biggest drawbacks to Mensik&rsquo;s game happens to be his relative lack of success in the best-of-5 tournaments like the Grand Slams. It was visible again during his match with the world No. 184 Ugo Blanchet.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jakub Mensik vs. Ugo Blanchet Highlights | 2025 US Open Round 2\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jdbF4EK523c?feature=oembed&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/theplayoffs.news\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure><p>Despite winning the first set 7-6(2), Mensik never really looked comfortable on the court. As a result, this grueling 4-hour and 23-minute contest featured constant momentum shifts with both participants exchanging sets. With 29 aces, Mensik did showcase his biggest strength, but his lack of break-point conversions hurt him. The 19-year-old could convert only 4 of his 9 break points.&nbsp;<\/p><p>After Blanchet won the 4th round, it increasingly became clear that he had the momentum. But to Mensik&rsquo;s credit, the teenager pushed the match to a tiebreak. However, the Czech couldn&rsquo;t finish things on his terms, and Blanchet won 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7). And that marked another early Grand Slam exit for the world No. 16.<\/p><p>So, as it stands, the 2025<a href=\"https:\/\/theplayoffs.news\/en\/2025-us-open-upset-alert-daniil-medvedevs-misfortune-continues-loses-to-benjamin-bonzi-again-in-round-1-after-wimbledon-2025\/\" class=\"trk-cta-link\" data-cta-trk='{\"ctaType\":\"Link\",\"ctaSubType\":\"main\"}'> US Open has already started <\/a>to show its colors.
