Despite losing their second game of the preseason, the main low point of Saturday night&rsquo;s game came when backup quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/theplayoffs.news\/en\/nfl\/\" class=\"trk-cta-link\" data-cta-trk='{\"ctaType\":\"Link\",\"ctaSubType\":\"main\"}'>Aidan O&rsquo;Connell<\/a> suffered a wrist injury.&nbsp;<\/p><p>After leading a 10-play drive that went 32 yards and ended with a long 52-yard field goal from Daniel Carlson, O&rsquo;Connell headed to the locker room only to later come out with a splint on his right hand. O&rsquo;Connell&rsquo;s injury has left the QB room rather thin, and if any unfortunate situation were to happen to Smith, Vegas&rsquo; season would be in jeopardy with all the weight of the pressure on young Miller&rsquo;s shoulders.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Following the game, Carroll acknowledged that O&rsquo;Connell&rsquo;s injury has put Vegas in a tough spot as they now have just two quarterbacks. With the question of the backup signal caller now wide open, the former Seahawks coach mentioned that they are in the market for any and every possible option, but whoever they decide to bring in, that person will be an experienced head for sure.&nbsp;<\/p><p><em>&ldquo;All possibilities are available right now. I mean, wherever they come from, and we&rsquo;re looking everywhere to see if we can find the best guy that fits us,&rdquo; <\/em>said Carroll.<em> &ldquo;So if you don&rsquo;t mind, I&rsquo;m not going to really lay out exactly what we&rsquo;re looking for here, so I don&rsquo;t want to show our hand, but I want somebody who&rsquo;s played. Thus, the Raiders have no option but to trade for a backup signal caller or sign one as a free agent. Here is a list of four candidates Vegas could pursue.&nbsp;<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jameis Winston<\/h3><p>The New York Giants have all but penciled in rookie Jaxson Dart as their number two under center with Russell Wilson as the starter. That leaves Jameis Winston as their third-string QB.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Winston looked great in preseason, and despite being a backup for the past few years, he has played in multiple games, in particular last season when he started 7 for the Cleveland Browns. Having backed up Lamar Jackson in Baltimore for the majority of his career, he started 5 games for the Miami Dolphins last year.&nbsp;<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brett Rypien<\/h3><p>Undrafted signal caller from the 2019 NFL draft, Brett Rypien has just 4 starts and has played 10 games in the NFL during his 6-year career thus far. Rypien spent the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings but was let go on Sunday.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dorian Thompson-Robinson<\/h3><p>2023 fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson is another candidate worth exploring for the Raiders. He has featured in 15 games with 5 starts over his 2-year career with the Browns in the NFL. Thompson-Robinson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Kenny Pickett, but he, too, was released by the Eagles on Sunday.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>It&rsquo;s been rather unfortunate that the Raiders have to deal with O&rsquo;Connell&rsquo;s injury so close to the regular season. Now, they need to finalize a backup as soon as possible.
