Liverpool’s hopes of landing Crystal Palace Defender Marc Guehi have been given a major boost. The England international played the full 90 minutes in Crystal Palace’s Community Shield win over Liverpool before being replaced late on by 21-year-old Justin Devenny. Guehi has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park. <\/p>
Despite Palace’s hopes of securing an extension, Guehi appears no closer to signing a new deal. Guehi is reportedly open to staying until 2026 before departing on a free transfer. In the aftermath of Sunday’s Community Shield triumph over Liverpool, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish admitted that the Eagles may have to sell their captain this summer to avoid losing him for free next year. <\/p>
Parish revealed that Palace rejected several bids from Newcastle United in January. He admitted that the club cannot risk losing both Guehi and former defender Joachim Andersen, who joined Fulham last summer, without a fee. Parish said,<\/p>
\n“We’d have to do that, of course. For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately. Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn’t afford to lose both.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation. We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>
