ESPN broadcaster Stephen A. Smith dismissed the New York Knicks’ chances of winning the NBA championship. Smith appeared on First Take after New York made a series comeback against the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Despite their 111-94 win, Smith believes that the Knicks don’t hold chances to defeat the OKC Thunder in the Finals and win the NBA<\/a> Championship this season. <\/p>

Smith, who is an ardent Knicks fan, was brutally honest about the team and said that only a divine interpretation can help them defeat the Thunder and win the championship. He said, “I give them zero chance, zero, of beating the Oklahoma City Thunder if they were to advance to the Finals. Days ago, I’m like, ‘Hey, we got a chance.’ And then I watched OKC, having to cover the Western Conference Finals and I see those bodies that they throw.” <\/em><\/p>

He added, “Then I see the New York Knicks’ style of play and the lack of personnel, and you just see it in the way Oklahoma City defends. And that has taken some of the luster off my championship aspirations for the New York Knicks.” <\/em><\/p>

Notably, earlier, Smith made a painful admission after the Pacers’ victory in Game 4 and hailed them a better team than New York. <\/a><\/p>

Coming back to the show, he concluded by saying, “Getting there, I’m all for it. But I would have to cover an NBA Finals where I’m a New York Knick fan and I literally believe from the bottom of my heart that nothing short of divine intervention would propel them.”<\/em><\/p>

Stephen A. Smith Reflects on New York’s Performance in Game 5<\/h2>

The renowned journalist reflected on the performance displayed by the New York Knicks in Game 5. He said that how the last meeting went for both the teams said a lot about the Knicks and their grit. Smith believed that while the Pacers appear to be a better team, the Knicks knew that it was a do-or-die game for them, and they responded in the same way. <\/p>

According to him, Game 5 “said more about the New York Knicks from the standpoint of their grit.” <\/em>Smith added, “We all know that from top to bottom, the Indiana Pacers appear to be a better team. But the New York Knicks had to come out there. They had to get on their grind. They had to be ready to fight to understand that you’re on the brink of elimination. You win or you go home. It’s over for you. And they responded like that.”<\/em><\/p>

However, the 57-year-old believes that a win in Game 5 doesn’t guarantee the Knicks Game 6, and the upcoming game is going to be more challenging. He stated, “The question is whether or not they can do it continuously. It still doesn’t mean that game six is a given. A matter of fact, game six is going to be even harder.” <\/em><\/p>

For Game 6, the Knicks will travel to Indianapolis on Saturday, May 31. <\/p>\n
