Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has taken legal action against his father, James Mayfield, and his companies, alleging financial misconduct that cost him and his wife, Emily, $11.7 million.<\/p>

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Texas on November 22, accuses Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries of misusing the couple’s funds between 2018 and 2021, as well as failing to honor a settlement agreement to repay the money.<\/p>

According to the lawsuit, the funds were to be repaid starting in September 2024, per a confidential settlement agreement reached in January of this year. However, the company allegedly failed to meet its obligations, including refinancing a loan to free up capital and providing access to financial records which forced the Mayfield couple to take legal action.<\/p>

Who is Baker Mayfield’s father, James Mayfield?<\/h2>

James Mayfield, a private equity consultant, is the founder and senior managing director of Camwood Capital Management Group LLC, a firm specializing in private equity investments. His business ventures also include subsidiaries like Camwood Ventures LP. <\/p>

Will Baker Mayfield play against the Panthers?<\/h2>

Amid the off-field drama, Baker Mayfield’s availability for the NFL Week 13 matchup against the Carolina Panthers remains doubtful following an injury. <\/p>

During Tampa Bay’s dominating 30-7 win over the New York Giants, Mayfield suffered a stinger after a head-first collision with teammate Luke Goedeke while recovering a botched snap.<\/p>

Mayfield completed 24 of 30 passes for 294 yards, and one rushing touchdown before the injury occurred. The 29-year-old has been central to the Buccaneers’ success this season, having a stellar stat line of 2,799 passing yards, 24 touchdowns<\/a>, and a 104.1 passer rating.<\/p>
