The San Antonio Spurs are likely to part ways with their veteran point guard, Chris Paul, after a disappointing run in the 2024-25 season. The 40-year-old guard who became the 11th player in the history of the league to have played 20 seasons, was acquired by the Spurs last years for one year to help younger players, especially Victor Wembanyama improve. <\/p>
The franchise hoped that his experience would guide the younger team to get better, and during his tenure with the team, his expertise surely came in handy for 21-year-old Wembanyama. However, the Spurs failed to make it to the playoffs, after finishing the season with a record of 34-48. Heading into the new season, the Spurs would want to keep their No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper rather than using it to trade for an established player. <\/p>
According to NBA insider Mark Stein, “Anticipation is building that Paul could be on the move again this offseason even though his time as a Spur as a mentor to Wembanyama and a young team overall was an unabashed success.
