But in the middle of it all, owner Steve Cohen offered a much-needed dose of perspective.<\/p><p><em>&ldquo;Welcome to the ups and downs of a baseball season,&rdquo;<\/em> Cohen posted on X following the team&rsquo;s 2&ndash;0 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. <em>&ldquo;This too will pass. The Mets, at 29&ndash;20, still hold one of the best records in the National League and sit just a game and half behind the Phillies in the NL East. Tuesday&rsquo;s shutout loss saw them waste a strong six-inning outing from Clay Holmes, who gave up just two runs and struck out five. Max Kranick followed with two clean frames, but the offense never showed.<\/p><p>Meanwhile, Boston&rsquo;s pitching pieced it together after Walker Buehler was ejected in the third inning. Ever since Juan Soto returned to the Bronx, greeted by relentless boos and a full-volume reminder of the $765 million contract he signed with the Mets instead of the Yankees, the spotlight has only intensified. Soto brushed it off at first. But as the weekend wore on and his on-field swagger waned, the pressure started to show. Not running out grounders. Shrugging off criticism. He hasn&rsquo;t looked like the same player who helped the Yankees reach the World Series last fall.<\/p><p>Still, it&rsquo;s a stretch to pin this all on Soto. The Mets are collectively 5-for-44 with runners in scoring position over the last week. No one&rsquo;s been spared from the slump.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mets Fans, Just Ask the Dodgers?<\/h2><p>Cohen&rsquo;s message is a reminder that even the best teams get punched in the mouth over a 162-game season. Just ask the Dodgers, who lost four straight earlier this month before bouncing back.
