A tragic moment unfolded at PNC Park on Wednesday night when a fan fell from the 21-foot-high Clemente Wall in right field during the Pittsburgh Pirates’ game against the Chicago Cubs. The fall happened shortly after Andrew McCutchen ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead. As players rounded the bases, attention quickly shifted to the warning track, where an adult male had fallen from the stands onto the field.<\/p>
Pirates and Cubs players immediately signaled for help, and the game was paused for about 10 minutes. Both teams’ training staffs, along with Pittsburgh EMS and PNC Park personnel, rushed to the scene. Players took a knee, visibly shaken, while the man was treated. McCutchen held his cross, and several others were seen praying during the tense moment. A graphic video<\/a> on social media showed the fan fall from the bleachers.<\/p> The fan, who lay motionless on his back, was stabilized on a backboard, loaded onto a medical cart, and taken off the field. Pittsburgh Public Safety later confirmed he was in critical condition and transported to Allegheny General Hospital. <\/p> Pirates manager Derek Shelton and Cubs manager Craig Counsell immediately brought the situation to the umpires’ attention after witnessing the fall. “Even though it’s 350 feet away or whatever it is, the way it went down and then laying motionless while the play is going on… Craig saw it, I saw it. We both got out there,”<\/em> Shelton said. “It’s extremely unfortunate.
