Every season the anticipation for the MVP, ROTY, DPOY, is always at the highest at the end of the year, but what about the Coach of the Year award? Unlike the last couple of seasons, where we most certainly knew who was going to win the MVP award, the 2024-2025 season doesn&rsquo;t really have a definite favorite. While various websites may list the odds of a coach to win the MVP award, we believe that the coaches that we&rsquo;re going to mention today, all have their own case to win the Coach of the Year award. Kenny Atkinson<\/h3><p>Atkinson started his head coaching job with the Brooklyn Nets on 2016. He coached the team for four seasons before he fired by the Nets and was replaced by Hall of Fame Point Guard, Steve Nash. We believe that was one of the worst firing decisions that the Nets made, particularly due to the success he was having while being the head coach at Brooklyn. Atkinson helped the Nets reach the playoffs with D&rsquo;Angelo Russell as he best player in the 2018-2019 season, but were knocked out of the playoffs by Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers.<\/p><p>Even with a terrific season under his belt, the Nets fired Atkinson immediately in the offseason. After spending some years being an assistant coach for the Clippers and the Warriors, he was hired by the Cleveland Cavaliers this season. The Cavs are currently the best team in the Eastern Conference, in front of the defending champs in Celtics. Atkinson helped the Cavs achieve an unbelievable start, as they went 15-0 in the beginning of the season. He became the only coach in NBA history to win first 15 games to start a tenure with a franchise. The Cavs are currently sitting at the top of the East with a 62-16 record, and we can safely say that nobody saw this coming.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Cavs get their 15TH WIN IN A ROW &#8252;&#65039;&#128548;<br><br>19-1 in their last 20 games. J.B. Bickerstaff<\/h3><p>After coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers for five seasons, the Cavs decided to fire Bickerstaff. However, the Detroit Pistons saw this opportunity and immediately decided to hire Bickerstaff as their new head coach, and so far it has been some of the best decisions the Pistons have made in recent history. The Pistons, last season, were hard to watch as they lost 28-straight games and finished the season with a 14-68 record, the worst in the entire league. However, since Bickerstaff was hired, the Pistons are 6th in the East with a 43-35 record and have officially clenched a playoff spot. Mark Daigneault<\/h3><p>Daigneault won the Coach of the Year award last season in 2023-2024, where he helped OKC achieve the number one seed in the West. However, the Thunder were knocked off by the Mavs in the second round of the playoffs. This season, in 2024-2025, the Thunder are once again leading the West and are the favorites to make it to the NBA Finals. The have the number defensive rating this season, and Daigneault has also helped Shai Gilgeous Alexander become the player that he is today, leading the MVP race. JJ Redick<\/h3><p>After the firing of Darvin Ham, the Lakers decided to hire JJ Redick as their head coach this season. While Redick struggled initially to help the Lakers win ball games, now he looks much more comfortable and his mind for the game, is clearly seen every time the Lakers play. The Lakers are currently the 3rd seed in the West and are a threat to reach the NBA Finals, even with an aging Lebron James. The Lakers still lack size in their lineup, and that has been the story lately, ever since they traded away Anthony Davis for Luka Donicic. However, with the way Redick has helped players like Austin Reaves elevate his game, the Lakers look like a legit threat and can beat anybody in the playoffs. <\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Ime Udoka<\/h3><p>When Udoka was the head coach for the Boston Celtics, he helped the Celtics reach all the way into the NBA Finals. Now that coach Udoka is the head coach for the Houston Rockets, they are currently sitting in the 2nd seed in the West. Sure, the Rockets are very young and have never played in the playoffs with the core of Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Amen Thompson before, but in the 2024-25 regular season, they have shown that they can beat anybody on any given night, as we saw them do exactly that against the Oklahoma City Thunder recently.
