The “Tush Push,” also dubbed the “Brotherly Shove,” is a short-yardage play that’s stirred up the NFL, especially since the Philadelphia Eagles have perfected the play. The Eagles popularized it in 2022 and the play can be described as a twist on the quarterback sneak where, for context, Jalen Hurts takes the snap under center and quite simply dives forward, with his Eagles’ teammates pushing from the back mostly involving the two or sometimes three players like tight ends or running backs. <\/p>
The Eagles have seemingly mastered this play and they have used it on multiple occasions. In fact Philly is so good with this play that they have converted on 39 of 48 times Tush Push attempts, giving them a success rate of 81.3%, whether it’s on first downs or touchdowns last season.<\/p>
The play’s roots can be traced back to around 2018 when Vikings’ Linebacker Anthony Barr suggested running a play, which is now known as the Tush Push. However, now, it’s under fire as the Green Bay Packers first suggested banning the play in 2025, citing safety concerns. The Los Angeles Rams’ head coach Sean McVay even went as far to call Tush Push a “rugby like play” instead of football. <\/p>
NFL owners tabled the vote in April of 2025 but have delayed the decision further to May. While we do not think that one single play getting banned would affect the Eagles all that much. However, it is one of their favorite plays to run and have achieved a ton of success with it.<\/p>
