Abdul Carter is a name that has been trending heavily, especially with the NFL<\/a> Scouting Combine underway in Indianapolis. The 21-year-old defensive end is considered to be the best edge rusher in this year’s draft and has great potential to be selected number one overall later in the NFL draft. <\/p>

Carter<\/a> has been a part of the Penn State Nittany Lions from 2022-2024 and during his three-year collegiate career, the Philadelphia native has earned numerous honors such as Unanimous All-American and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, both in 2024. He is also a two-time first-team All-Big Ten player in 2023 and 2024. <\/p>

Carter’s journey to the top of the draft prospects has been quite remarkable. From starting out as a reserve at linebacker in his freshman year to becoming a huge game-breaker from the edge, the Nittany Lion’s star presence on the field is a big boost on the defensive side of the ball. <\/p>

What Injury Does Abdul Carter Have?<\/h2>

The former Nittany Lion defender, Abdul Carter had already ruled himself out of on-field workouts at the ongoing NFL Combine due to a shoulder injury that he suffered during the College Football Playoffs. However, a big twist emerged as Carter was found to have a stress reaction in his right foot which only came to light during medical testing at the Combine on Wednesday morning.<\/p>

The worrisome factor about this injury is that Carter may have to go under the knife which could result in a massive setback especially with the draft coming up. <\/p>

As per the post sent out by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said, “There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery, and we will figure that out in the near future.” Rosenhaus went on to add that Carter has a couple of options on how to go about this unforeseen complication. “ Option 1 for Carter would be to have the pre-emptive surgery, have a screw inserted in his right foot, and be expected back in eight weeks. Option 2 for Carter would be to bypass the surgery, conduct his pro day and prove to NFL teams that he doesn’t need it.”<\/p>

Tests today revealed that potential No. 1 pick Abdul Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot and the Penn State standout will need to decide soon whether to have surgery, sources told ESPN.
