The NBA<\/a> has officially launched an investigation<\/a> into the Philadelphia 76ers regarding player participation of Joel Embiid. The star center did not play in the team’s season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday due to “left knee injury management.”<\/p>

The NBA is obligated to investigate any time an All-Star or All-NBA selection misses a game, as part of the league’s player participation policy implemented last year. <\/p>

Embiid missed the entire preseason with the 76ers citing knee concerns. The investigation could include an independent medical review to determine the validity of the injury and whether proper protocols were followed regarding Embiid’s status.<\/p>

The seven-time NBA All-Star’s career has been plagued with injuries which limited his appearances in the league last season. <\/p>

Earlier this month, Embiid told ESPN’s Tim Bontemps that he would probably never play back-to-back games for the rest of his career. <\/p>

“If I had to guess, I would probably never play back-to-backs the rest of my career.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Sixers could face a $100,000 fine if found guilty<\/h2>

Before the 2023-24 season, the NBA passed a new player participation policy to restrict the number of games that star players miss. The NBA incorporated a fines system with $100,000 for first offenses, $250,000 for second offenses, and $1 million more than the previous penalty for each additional fine, sources said. If found guilty, Sixers could be charged with a $100,000 fine. <\/p>
