Rymer comes in with a <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25158808-pitching-wild-rafael-devers-mlb-trade-ideas-amid-red-sox-drama\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" class=\"trk-cta-link\" data-cta-trk='{\"ctaType\":\"Link\",\"ctaSubType\":\"main\"}'>trade proposal<\/a> so insane it might just make sense:<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trade proposal: Mike Trout and Rafael Devers swap<\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Los Angeles Angels receive:<\/strong> 3B Rafael Devers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Boston Red Sox receive:<\/strong> RF Mike Trout, LHP Samuel Aldegheri (Angels No. 5 prospect), <strong>$100 million cash<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Mike Trout has been baseball&rsquo;s equivalent of a tragic hero since 2014 &ndash; the first, and only, time he&rsquo;s seen the postseason. For a player who is arguably the greatest of his generation, that&rsquo;s borderline criminal. The Angels have wasted Trout&rsquo;s prime, and at this point, a move elsewhere might be the only shot he has at October baseball.<\/p><p>Sure, the AL East is brutal. But even an inconsistent Red Sox team gives Mike Trout a better postseason shot than the Angels.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Would this trade actually make sense?<\/h2><p>At first glance, Trout-for-Devers sounds insane. But let&rsquo;s break it down:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trout&rsquo;s value isn&rsquo;t what it used to be. Injuries have piled up, and he&rsquo;s played just 319 games over the past five seasons (including the shortened 2020 season). That&rsquo;s 63.8 games per year &ndash; not ideal for someone earning $35.5 million annually until 2030.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boston would get $100M in cash, helping offset the risk of Mike Trout&rsquo;s contract.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aldegheri is a solid left-handed pitching prospect, but he&rsquo;s not a franchise-changing addition.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>From the Angels&rsquo; perspective, Rafael Devers is a younger, more durable star who instantly becomes the face of their franchise. They get a 28-year-old elite hitter, under contract for several more years, at half the price of Juan Soto. Not bad.<\/p><p>For Boston, this trade only works if Trout can stay healthy &ndash; or if Devers is genuinely unhappy and forces his way out.
