Philadelphia 76ers fans can breathe a sigh of relief as head coach Nick Nurse confirmed star forward Paul George did not suffer any long-term damage to a hyperextended left knee<\/a> suffered in a preseason game.<\/p>

“Everything checks out OK,” coach Nick Nurse told reporters at the team’s New Jersey complex. <\/p>

ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania reported<\/a> that George did not sustain any structural damage to his left knee. He will be re-evaluated in a week.<\/p>

Notably, George had suffered a hyperextended knee during the Philadelphia 76ers’ preseason match against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday. <\/p>

Paul George to miss start of regular season<\/h2>

While Paul has avoided any serious injury, the 34-year-old forward is still expected to miss at least two weeks, which will potentially sideline him for the start of the regular season. The 76ers— who signed George to a four-year, $212 million contract as a free agent this summer — want to be cautious and do not want to rush George’s return considering they are already missing Joel Embiid. <\/p>

George made an impressive start in his preseason Sixers debut, scoring 23 points against the Timberwolves. He is expected to play a crucial role alongside 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, as they aim to lead the 76ers to an NBA championship this season.<\/p>

The Sixers will begin their regular season campaign against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET.<\/p>
