Ben had been his third-grade teacher, and Alexa had taught kindergarten. <\/p><p>Yet, Davis soon found himself back with his grandmother, a challenging situation for both of them. <em>&ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t have good meals, proper clothes, or the motivation to attend school,&rdquo;<\/em> he admitted.<\/p><p>Fate stepped in when Davis joined a youth basketball tournament in Santa Barbara. After the game, a coach had taken him there but couldn&rsquo;t bring him back. Desperate, Davis asked all his teammates for a ride. She learned my life story during that car ride.&rdquo;<\/em><\/p><p>Lora recalled the encounter differently: <em>&ldquo;It was probably closer to a thousand questions. He was a mysterious 15-year-old who I didn&rsquo;t know much about. I only knew that he wasn&rsquo;t getting an education like my kids, and I wanted to know why and what I could do to help.&rdquo;<\/em><\/p><p>That car ride changed Davis&rsquo; life. Lora Banks, alongside her husband Greg Ley, became his guardians, ensuring he had access to the education he needed. <em>&ldquo;She never gave up on me,&rdquo;<\/em> Davis said. <em>&ldquo;She helped me find my purpose in life and never wanted anything in return.&rdquo;<\/em><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where did Ray Davis go to school?<\/h2><p>Thanks to a connection Lora and Greg had, Davis got the opportunity to attend Trinity-Pawling School in New York. Impressed by his potential, the school offered him a basketball scholarship, setting the stage for the next phase of his life. <\/p><p>Later, he transferred to Kentucky, where he realized the NFL could be within reach after delivering his best performance yet&mdash;over 1,100 rushing yards, 323 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ray Davis was a star everywhere he went &mdash; at Temple, at Vanderbilt, and at Kentucky.<br><br>Will always remember him for his 280-yard, 3-touchdown explosion vs. Florida last fall. Although he couldn&rsquo;t attend one of their visits due to illness, they made him their fourth-round draft pick. <\/p><p>General manager Brandon Beane saw more than just Davis&rsquo; football talent; he admired his resilience and believed Davis&rsquo; life experiences would help him thrive in the NFL.<\/p><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Eight years ago, in a courtroom, Judge Lyons told Davis, <em>&ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been a judge for 10 years, and I&rsquo;ve never done this before. Re&rsquo;Mahn Davis, you&rsquo;re no longer a ward of the court.
