Standing at 6&rsquo;4&Prime; (1.93m) and weighing 205 lbs (93kg), Smith plays as a shooting guard\/point guard. His collegiate journey led him to play for several notable programs. He started with the Wright State Raiders, playing from 2018 to 2019. After his time at Wright State, he transferred to the Chattanooga Mocs, where he played from 2020 to 2022. During his tenure with the Mocs, Smith earned significant accolades, including the Lou Henson Award and SoCon Player of the Year in 2022. He was also recognized with First-team All-SoCon in 2022 and First-team All-SoCon &ndash; Coaches and Second-team All-SoCon &ndash; Media in 2021. For his final year of college basketball, Smith joined the Gonzaga Bulldogs for the 2022&ndash;2023 season, where he was named WCC Sixth Man of the Year in 2023. Following his college career, Malachi Smith entered the 2023 NBA draft but went undrafted. Despite not being drafted, his professional career began to take shape. In 2023, he joined the Portland Trail Blazers for the NBA Summer League. On October 2, 2023, he signed with the Trail Blazers and subsequently played for their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, during the 2023&ndash;2024 season. The 2024&ndash;2025 season saw Smith moving to different G League teams. He played for the Wisconsin Herd in 2024 and then the Memphis Hustle from 2024 to 2025. Recent news from October 2025 indicates that Smith signed a contract with the Brooklyn Nets. This was reported by Erik Slater of ClutchPoints.com and was likely an Exhibit 10 deal. However, just a few days later, on October 18, 2025, the Nets waived Smith, meaning he did not secure a spot on their final roster. He is expected to likely join the Long Island Nets, the Nets&rsquo; G League affiliate, for the upcoming season.
