At 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) and weighing 93 kg (205 lb), Butler plays as a point guard. Butler&rsquo;s collegiate career was marked by his impactful performances for both the San Diego State Aztecs (2020&ndash;2024) and the Kentucky Wildcats (2024&ndash;2025). During his time at San Diego State, he was a key player, notably leading the team to a spot in the 2023 National Championship game. His defensive prowess was recognized with multiple honors, including the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2024 and three selections to the All-Defensive Mountain West Team (2022&ndash;2024). He also earned Third Team All-Mountain West honors in 2023. Throughout his collegiate career, Butler consistently improved his statistics, averaging 7.3 PPG in 2021-22, 8.8 PPG in 2022-23, 9.3 PPG in 2023-24, and 11.4 PPG in 2024-25. He also demonstrated a strong all-around game, with notable assist and steal numbers, as well as a solid field goal percentage. He was an Academic All-Mountain West honoree. In the 2025 NBA draft, Lamont Butler was not drafted. Following his collegiate career, Butler signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Atlanta Hawks in 2025. However, he was subsequently waived by the Hawks on October 19, 2025, after being deemed an unlikely candidate to make the roster. News reports from July and October 2025 indicate that Butler was dealing with injuries and was eventually waived by the Hawks. As of October 2025, Lamont Butler is a free agent.
