He comes from a family deeply rooted in basketball; his father, Massar, is a former professional basketball player from Senegal, and his older brother, Olivier Sarr, currently plays for the Toronto Raptors of the NBA. Alex started playing basketball at four years old, first in Bordeaux and then in Toulouse, France. He is of Senegalese descent. Sarr&rsquo;s path to the NBA did not involve a traditional college career. Instead, he developed his skills through various professional and academy programs. He played for the French youth national team and then joined Team Overtime in 2021-2022, followed by YNG Dreamerz in 2022-2023. His pre-NBA professional career also included a stint with the Perth Wildcats of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) during the 2023-2024 season. During his time with the YNG Dreamerz, he was recognized for his talent, earning a spot on the All-OTE Second Team in 2023. In the 2024 NBA draft, Alex Sarr was a highly anticipated prospect and was ultimately selected as the 2nd overall pick in the 1st round by the Washington Wizards. This marked a significant milestone in his career, transitioning him into the National Basketball Association. He officially began his NBA career with the Washington Wizards in the 2024-2025 season. Standing at 2.13 meters tall and weighing 93 kg, Sarr plays the center position. In his NBA debut season (2024-2025), he showed promising performance, averaging 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 67 regular season games. His early contributions led him to be named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2025, highlighting his impact and potential in the league. He currently wears jersey number 20 for the Washington Wizards.
