In the latest New Orlean Saints news, head coach Dennis Allen has been fired after a series of poor outings. The New Orleans Saints who started off the season with impressive wins over the Panthers (47-10) and the Cowboys (44-19) fell from grace afterwards.
The 2-0 start to the season turned into a nightmare for the Saints who are on a 7-game losing streak. This is what got the Saints HC Dennis Allen fired today. Allen is the second head coach to be fired in the NFL 2024 regular season after Robert Saleh was fired by the New York Jets.
The move of Dennis Allen getting fired came after Derek Carr and co. lost a game to the Carolina Panthers by 23-22, a game they were supposed to win, given the Panthers are one of the lowest rated teams in the NFL.
While working as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Dennis Allen has a win-loss record of 18-25, with a win percentage of 41.9 percent. In his overall career as a head coach, Allen has a below average record of 26-53. From the 2012-2014 season, Allen was head coach of the Oakland Raiders (who later became the Las Vegas Raiders).
Neither the Raiders nor the Saints ever reached the playoffs under Dennis Allen as a head coach. As the Saints HC, Allen’s best season was 2023 with a regular season record of 9-8.
The terms of Dennis Allen’s contract are not public yet. But given that the NFL head coaches have a guaranteed money clause in their contracts, Allen must be receiving fair compensation for the buyout, given he was fired mid-season.
Dennis Allen assumed the mantle of the Saints head coach on February 8, 2022. He became the 17th head coach in the franchise’s history after the departure of Sean Payton. This was Allen’s third year as the Saints head coach, which eventually got cut short because of the team’s poor record.
Saints special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi has been named the interim head coach for the Saints. The Saints announced this news via their official X alongside the news of Dennis Allen’s release.
With a 2-7 record in the 2024 regular season, the Saints’ playoffs hope is hanging on to a thread with just 8 games left. The Saints might just clinch the playoffs spot if they manage to win all their remaining games, which will be a herculean task in its own rights.
