Ravens bolster their shaky secondary
In a strategic move just before the NFL trade deadline, the Los Angeles Rams traded cornerback Tre’Davious White to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Rams also sent a 2027 seventh-round pick to Baltimore, receiving a 2026 seventh-round pick in return. This exchange effectively advances the Rams’ seventh-round selection by one year.
Tre’Davious White, 29, joined the Rams in the offseason on a one-year contract valued at up to $10 million. He started the first four games of the season but was inactive for the subsequent four, leading to speculation about his future with the team.
Head coach Sean McVay acknowledged White’s professionalism during this period, stating, “He’s been such a pro about the way he’s handled obviously a not-ideal situation for him.”
General Manager Les Snead emphasized the team’s desire to find a mutually beneficial solution. He noted, “We wanted to come up with a win-win. Obviously, we could have kept him in case of an emergency as an insurance policy.”
Los Angeles Rams recognized White’s wish for more playing time and sought to accommodate his aspirations.
Before joining the Rams, White had a distinguished career with the Buffalo Bills, earning two Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro nod in 2019.
However, his career faced setbacks due to significant injuries, including a torn ACL in 2021 and an Achilles tear in 2023. These injuries limited his playing time and impacted his performance.
The Ravens, currently struggling with the league’s worst pass defense, aim to bolster their secondary with White’s addition. His experience and leadership are expected to provide depth and mentorship to Baltimore’s defensive backfield.
While his recent injuries have affected his play, the Ravens hope that a change of environment will help White regain his form.
As the Rams continue their season, they will rely on their current cornerback roster, including Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon. The trade reflects the team’s commitment to aligning player aspirations with organizational goals.
For White, this move offers a fresh start and the opportunity to contribute to a defense in need of reinforcement.
