Josh Reynolds, Broncos wide receiver, fell victim to a shooting incident in Denver last Friday
Denver Broncos receiver Josh Reynolds was shot twice early last Friday after leaving a Denver-area strip club, as reported by Denver’s NBC affiliate, 9News.
“Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities,” the team stated on Thursday.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. At that hour, multiple 911 calls were made by victims claiming they had been shot, as noted in court records. Among those injured was Reynolds, who suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm and the back of his head.
Another man was shot in the back, and a third person sustained injuries from shattered glass. All three victims had cuts and scrapes from climbing over a fence while trying to escape the gunfire.
The Denver Police arrested two suspects, Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, in connection with the incident.
The victims stated they had been at Shotgun Willies, a local strip club, before the shooting. They left the club around 2:45 a.m., and Mendoza, who had entered the club around midnight, reportedly followed them, according to club surveillance footage.
Court documents reveal that Mendoza did not interact with the victims inside the club, and there were no issues reported during their time there.
Three vehicles, including one driven by Mendoza, reportedly followed the victims as they left the club parking lot. The drivers in two of these vehicles opened fire on the victims’ vehicle, continuing the chase onto the highway.
On the highway, the victims were eventually forced to abandon their vehicle after it became undrivable. Police later recovered the car, which bore multiple bullet holes, along with two spent cartridge casings found behind it.
Reynolds is currently on the injured reserve list (IR) with a finger injury, rendering him ineligible for this weekend’s game. The Broncos are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
An NFL veteran in his eighth season, Reynolds was initially drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. He later played for the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans before joining the Broncos this past offseason.
Over five games this season, he’s recorded 183 receiving yards and one touchdown.
