Davis’s 35-point night and Reaves’s 26 lift the Lakers to a thrilling comeback over Phoenix.
Anthony Davis scored a dominant 35 points, and Austin Reaves added 26 as the Los Angeles Lakers rallied to defeat the Phoenix Suns 123-116. This marks the Lakers’ first 2-0 start since the 2010-11 season, with Davis and Reaves leading the charge in a comeback win.
LeBron James, who scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half, provided crucial momentum as the Lakers erased a 22-point deficit from the second quarter. The Lakers clawed back with a relentless third-quarter surge, powered by Davis and James, each contributing 11 points to close the gap.
Kevin Durant led the Suns with 30 points, while Devin Booker added 23 in a fast start for Phoenix. The Suns made 21 of their first 30 shots, including nine straight three-pointers, to build their early lead. However, Phoenix’s accuracy faltered, with only 21 of their final 52 attempts finding the mark.
The Lakers’ decisive run extended into the fourth quarter, where they solidified control.

Under JJ Redick’s leadership, Anthony Davis became the first Laker to open a season with consecutive 30-point games since Kobe Bryant. Davis’s 35 points against the Phoenix Suns followed a 36-point season debut against the Timberwolves, placing him at the forefront of the NBA MVP race
This scoring feat also puts Davis in rare company; he joins Elgin Baylor (1962) and Jerry West (1969) as the only Lakers players with back-to-back 35-point games to start a season.
In addition to his 35 points, Davis contributed eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks against Phoenix. His early-season impact positions him as a cornerstone in the Lakers’ quest for a championship under Redick’s stewardship.
