NFL Trade Rumors: Several AFC teams ‘pause trade talks’ ahead of pivotal week 9 games

Patience or playoff push? AFC teams weigh options as Week 9 looms.

Some struggling AFC teams may still be holding onto hopes of turning their season around.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz shared that “several AFC Teams” are holding off on trade decisions for now. Instead of making moves, they’re planning to wait until after Week 9 to determine if they’ll trade key players or keep them for a possible playoff push.

The 2024 NFL Trade Deadline lands on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Although Schultz didn’t drop specific team names, he did highlight that the Jets claimed their third win of the season on Thursday Night Football.

Nine AFC teams below .500, with six at two wins or fewer

The Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens look like solid playoff contenders, but the rest of the conference seems wide open.

The Denver Broncos currently have five wins, and two teams—the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts—have four each. With 10 games left in the regular season, even teams sitting at three wins still have a chance to get back in the wild-card mix.

The Jets are particularly intriguing here. With WR Allen Lazard recently placed on IR, they’ve reportedly been exploring a trade for WR Mike Williams, with the Steelers showing interest. However, their latest win and Lazard’s absence might just prompt them to rethink their plans.

Only one AFC East team is above .500: the Buffalo Bills. Yet, both the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are keeping their playoff aspirations alive.

Miami now has quarterback Tua Tagovailoa back, which should revitalize their offense. Meanwhile, the Jets already notched a Week 9 win against the Houston Texans on Thursday night, hoping that Aaron Rodgers can guide them forward from here.
